If anybody noticed a New York Yankee baseball legend died this week. Bobby Murcer who played from 1965 for 17 years with the Yankees and a couple other clubs in the '70's.
Now I don't really know too much about Bobby, but I do remember the hubbub generated by N.Y. sportswriters when he came up as a young (is there any other type?)ballplayer from Oklahoma who was touted to be the next Mickey Mantle. I thought how great that would be because Mickey was my #1 sports hero of all time and I knew his time in the big leagues was coming to an end.
Bobby seemed to be the perfect replacement right down to being from the same home state.
Bobby did all right in his years with the Yankees , making an all-star game or two, and hitting over 200 home runs. He later did radio for the team and did play in the National league for a couple years in the late '70's or early '80's.
Bobby passed away from brain cancer after a long and courageous fight.
I know this has nothing to do with Marketing but I felt the need to say something and thanks Bobby, for being a Great Yankee!./
"Into the Lovin' Arm of Jesus Bobby."
